The employee will become an integral part of Transport Canada’s oversight and enforcement activities relating to the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. The Act regulates the manufacture and importation of motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment to reduce the risk of death, injury and damage to property and the environment. Oversight and enforcement powers have been greatly expanded through recent amendments to the Act, and the candidate will work to develop and implement the tools, strategies, policies and procedures surrounding these new powers. Responsibilities may include: conducting analytical and research work; conducting regulatory compliance inspection activities, monitoring and reporting on oversight and enforcement; identifying and analyzing trends; developing strategies, recommendations and solutions to complex challenges; working collaboratively with team members from across the department and across-government, preparing papers, reports, briefing notes, and presentations.
A pool of essentially or partially qualified candidates may be established within Transport Canada and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (including indeterminate / term / assignment / Secondment/ acting/ deployment) and/or various linguistic requirements (bilingual imperative CBC/CBC ;BBB/BBB and English essential) and/or various security profiles (reliability, secret).

EDUCATION
AED1: Diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in engineering or related scientific field.
AED2: Completion of a recognized Canadian police service training academy program or a diploma or degree in criminal justice.
EXPERIENCE:
AEX1: Recent and significant* (see note) experience in writing detailed reports of outcomes in risk management activities.
AEX2: Experience in developing written procedures, policies and reference documents relating to risk management, investigation, or compliance verification activities.
AEX3: Experience in planning and delivering education and awareness sessions.
AEX4: Recent and significant* (see note) experience in conducting investigations and preparing court or tribunal briefs of evidence as a peace officer, public officer or other special designation.

KNOWLEDGE
