SPECTRUM AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SECTOR

We are responsible for researching and regulating spectrum, regulating telecommunications equipment, and working with other organizations on the safety and security of existing and future telecommunications infrastructure.
We are structured to be a focused, nimble regulator backed by scientific research and expertise. We aim to be agile, responsive and efficient in support of a competitive, secure wireless marketplace and a thriving, innovative digital economy.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially qualified candidates (Second Language Evaluations and Security) will be established to make indeterminate or determinate appointments to staff similar positions that may have various language requirements or various security levels or various locations (our current needs are in Montreal (1155 Metcalfe Street), Ottawa (235 Queen Street) and Nepean (3701 Carling Ave.)).

By default and in the interest of the greater public service, pools created as a result of staffing processes at ISED will be shared with other government departments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
EDU1 - Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution** in electrical engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics or other relevant engineering specialties.

OR

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
OC1 - Certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.

* Degree: A baccalaureate or higher level degree, as established by educational authorities, unless the type of credential is specified in the relevant Qualification Standard.
** Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs. It is the candidate's responsibility to demonstrate that the degree/program held has been approved by a "recognized" Canadian post-secondary institution. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of your application

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX1 - Significant*** experience working in one or more of the following engineering fields:
• telecommunications
• computing systems
• radiocommunications (e.g. electromagnetic compatibility, radio network planning, etc.)
• or related field
EX2 - Recent**** experience in writing technical documents.
EX3 - Recent**** experience in one or more of the following:
• Performing or assessing electro-magnetic compatibility analysis.
• Designing or developing communications networks or computing systems.
• Performing risk management activities related to cyber security of networks or computing systems.
• Assessing human exposure to electromagnetic energy from wireless equipment.
• Performing duties as a test or compliance engineer in the field of wireless telecommunications or electromagnetic compatibility.

***Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired over a period of at least five (5) years where a graduate degree could be considered two (2) of the required five (5) years.
****Recent experience is defined as being acquired over the last five (5) years.
