Duties

The federal government aims to be able to consider the cumulative aspect of environmental impacts related to the different industrial activities taking place in a given region within the framework of regional assessments carried out under its responsibility. The MSc project will have to begin with an in-depth literature review to synthesize what has been done so far worldwide on the assessment of cumulative effects. This project will then examine the relevance of the developed methodologies with regards to the Canadian context, taking into account spatial and temporal scales that were used as well as their results. The goal of this MSc project is to establish an optimal strategy to implement such a process and design a general methodology that could be used as a basis for project proponents that will be subject to an environmental assessment. More specifically, this methodology will have to be applicable to regions where intensive oil and gas activities take place.
