Assessment accommodation

When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.

Work environment

May involve working in a correctional institutional environment with offenders and staff members.

Intent of the process

This inventory is for casual employment which is a temporary employment of 90 working days or less, in a calendar year.

When you submit an application for this selection process, you are not applying for any specific position, but to an inventory in anticipation of future vacancies.

Please ensure that your information is updated and remains current in your PSRS Applicant Account.

Your application in this inventory will be active for 3 months. A notice that your application is about to expire will be posted to the My jobs menu of your account 10 days before the end of your active period. If you do not take action, your application will no longer be active and therefore no longer considered for this inventory. Should your application become inactive while the process is still open, a notice will be posted to your account indicating that your application has expired; you may select the link Update my Inventory Status to reaffirm your interest.

Your résumé.

A covering letter in 2,000 words (maximum)

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience

Degree equivalency

Recent experience working in food services within a commercial or institutional setting
Experience in the preparation and distribution of short order cooking

Knowledge of food preparation and service techniques (e.g. portion control, measuring ingredients, operating kitchen equipment etc.)

Knowledge of preparation and food handling procedures

Knowledge of workplace safety requirements, hygiene and sanitation practices

Knowledge of safe lifting and carrying techniques

Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations accurately

Ability to communicate effectively orally

Ability to provide training

Work in a team

Judgment

Dependability

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Successful completion of a secondary school diploma

Possession of a valid recognized Safe Food Handling Program certification

Professional Culinary Art diploma

Degree equivalency

Experience working with cash register or Point of sale system

Experience working in a correctional environment (institutional or community office)
