ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Notes:
1. Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.

2. It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.

3. At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
1. Recent* experience in providing expert advice and guidance on IM/IT issues to one or more of the following: clients, colleagues, management**, committees, or inter-disciplinary teams.

2. Experience accrued over a period of approximately two (2) years in preparing or reviewing technical reports, such as, but not limited to: Build books, Run books, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), architectures, design documents, deployment guidelines, or test cases.

3. Recent* Experience in one or more of the following scripting, programming languages or tools:
a. C, C++, or C#
b. PHP
c. Shell
d. Bash
e. Python
f. Perl
g. Ruby
h. MPI
i. OpenMP
j. Parallel debuggers (e.g. TotalView, Allinea DDT)
k. Profiling tools (e.g. Intel Vtune, perf stats, Vampire)
l. Version control (e.g. Git, Subversion, Mercurial)
m. Other scripting, programming languages or tools

4. Recent* experience in troubleshooting methodologies and resolving technical issues in the field of Information Technology, including a Linux or Unix system which in turn includes Linux servers or Unix servers.

5. Recent* experience in THREE (3) or MORE of the following activities pertaining to Linux or Unix operating system management:
a. Installation
b. Configuration
c. Maintenance
d. Monitoring
e. Patching
f. Provisioning
g. Upgrading
h. Troubleshooting

6. Recent* experience in the implementation or support in one or more of the following areas within a Linux or Unix environment (describe all activities and products that apply):
a. Networks (TCP/IP)
b. Monitoring tools
c. IT security solutions
d. Virtualization infrastructure
e. System capacity and performance management
f. Tools and applications in support of optimization and performance

*Recent experience is defined as experience accrued over a period of approximately two (2) years within the past five (5) years

Graduation with a degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) from a recognized university with a specialization in computer science or information technology.

1. Experience accrued over a period of approximately two (2) years within the past (5) five years with SUSE SMT, Red Hat Network or similar system management tool.

2. Experience accrued over a period of approximately two (2) years within the past (5) five years with one or more of following configuration management, containers, monitoring or deployment tools:
a. Satellite, Puppet, Chef, CFEngine, or Ansible
b. VMware Application services
c. Docker
d. Hyper-V, Xen
e. Nagios
f. ControlM/EM, OpenNMS
g. Other configuration management, monitoring, containers or deployment tools

3. Experience accrued over a period of approximately two (2) years within the past (5) five years in one or more of the following activities: installing, configuring, maintaining, monitoring, patching, provisioning, clustering, upgrading or troubleshooting one or more of the following web server technologies:
a. Websphere
b. Weblogic
c. Apache, lighttpd or nginx
d. Apache Tomcat
e. Other web server technologies

4. Experience accrued over a period of approximately one (1) year in the last five (5) years installing and patching Oracle on a Linux distribution.

5. Experience accrued over a period of approximately one (1) year in the last five (5) years in installing, supporting and maintaining storage systems or backup&restore systems in a Linux or Unix environment.

6. Experience accrued over a period of approximately one (1) year in the last five (5) years in one or more of the following activities: installing, configuring, maintaining, monitoring, patching, provisioning, upgrading or troubleshooting one or more of the following virtualization technologies:
a. vSphere
b. OpenStack
c. Citrix XenServer
d. RHEV
e. Other Cloud or Hypervisor technologies

7. Experience accrued over a period of approximately one (1) year in the last five (5) years in one or more of the following activities: installing, configuring, maintaining, monitoring, patching, provisioning, upgrading or troubleshooting one or more of the following related to High Performance Computing (HPC) networking administration:
a. Infiniband
b. Cray Gemini
c. Cray Aries
d. IBM HFI
e. High performance networks (large data volumes on multi-gigabit or faster networks)
f. Other HPC networking technologies

8. Experience accrued over a period of approximately one (1) year in the last five (5) years as a DBMS database administrator supporting one or more of the following database products:
