Intent of the process

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization* in economics, sociology or statistics.
*Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in developing and providing strategic advice, briefing material, policy analysis and/or recommendations to senior management** on policy issues.
Experience* in planning and implementing policy initiatives, programs and/or projects.
Experience* in establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with various stakeholders, including Canadian government departments, provincial governments, non-governmental agencies and/or Indigenous groups.

*Experience is defined as the depth, breadth and complexity of experience normally acquired with having performed work, as part of the regular duties of the candidate, for a period of at least two years.
** Defined as director-level and above.

Asset Qualifications - Education:
Graduation with a Master’s degree from a recognized university in a field relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Asset Qualifications - Experience:
Experience working on energy policy issues.
Experience working in the energy sector.
Experience with Federal-Provincial-Territorial working groups or negotiations, including supporting senior management participation.
Experience analyzing and assessing socio-economic issues to determine their economic impact and/or policy implications for government plans and priorities.
Experience in conducting fundamental analysis of crude oil and refined product markets, reporting on key financial and economic indicators.
Experience in analyzing the geopolitics of energy.
Experience working on policies and/or programs in the area of energy efficiency.
Experience working on policies and/or programs related to the electricity sector.
Experience representing the Government of Canada or international/multilateral organizations with other governments and internal or external stakeholders.
Experience in reviewing, analyzing or writing Memoranda to Cabinet and/or Treasury Board submissions.
Experience contributing to corporate reporting and planning processes.

Operational Requirements:
Willingness to travel;
Willingness to work additional hours when required to meet urgent requirements.
