Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) manages Canada’s fisheries and safeguards its waters. Our regional headquarters is located on the picturesque campus of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) on the shores of the Bedford Basin in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

We are hiring a Project Officer for DFO’s Atlantic Fisheries Fund (AFF) Secretariat. AFF is a contribution program intended to transform and drive innovation in Atlantic Canada’s fish and seafood sector and bring high value, high quality and sustainable fish and seafood to markets at home and around the world.

Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff one English Essential position on a term (temporary) or indeterminate (permanent) basis in Dartmouth, NS. A pool of qualified candidates will also be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions in Moncton, NB, Charlottetown, PEI, St. John’s, NL, and Dartmouth, NS for various tenures (indeterminate, term, acting, deployment, assignment and secondment) and with various language requirements.

EDUCATION
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in a relevant area of study (such as Business, Economics, Public Administration, Aquatic Resource Management or another discipline relevant to the duties of the position), or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
- Recent and significant experience* in providing advice and recommendations for decision-making to senior management on programs, policies or issues
- Recent and significant experience* in monitoring and managing contract performance
- Recent and significant experience* in project development including planning, evaluation and monitoring
- Recent and significant experience* in developing and maintaining working relationships or consulting with officials from Indigenous groups, other federal departments, provincial/municipal governments, the private sector, stakeholders or non-government organizations
- Recent and significant experience* in assessing at least two (2) of the following: project proposals and budgets; business plans; marketing plans; strategic plans; financial statements

* Recent and significant is defined as the depth and breadth associated with the performance of duties normally accumulated over a period of approximately two years, within the last five years.
