Stream 1: Financial Institutions Senior Tax Policy Officer
Stream 2: Strategic Planning and Priorities Senior Tax Policy Officer
This process is to staff the above-mentioned positions and it may also be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates which could be used to staff similar or identical positions with various tenures within the Department of Finance.

Education:
APPLICABLE TO STREAMS 1 AND 2:
One of the following:
•Completion of a graduate or post-graduate degree (Master's or Doctorate) from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in economics, or;
•Completion of a degree in law from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in economics, or;
•Completion of a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in economics plus:
•Professional accounting designation(s) in Canada (CA, CMA, CGA, or CPA); or
•Membership in the Bar of one or more provinces or territories of Canada or in the order of Notaries of Quebec.
Experience:
APPLICABLE TO STREAMS 1 AND 2
• Significant* experience in providing in-depth analysis and advice on business or economic, fiscal, or tax policy issues.;
• Significant* experience in presenting analysis and advice in the areas of economic, fiscal or tax policy to senior management, in the form of briefing notes, memoranda, decks, speaking points, quantitative analysis or oral briefings;
• Experience in leading projects, including establishing objectives, identifying and planning the work, monitoring progress, assembling inputs, and ensuring quality of the final product;
• Experience representing the positions of an organisation, or in negotiations and/or discussions with stakeholders.
*Significant experience is defined as relevant experience gained over a minimum period of five (5) years.

• Degree in Actuarial sciences

Experience:
• Experience in in accounting and analytic, specifically for insurance industry.
• Experience in ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for insurance companies.

• Knowledge of the overall structure of at least one of the following areas of the Canadian tax system: consumption taxes, corporate income tax, personal income tax.
• Knowledge of the policy environment related to taxation (may include theories and principles, and/or trends and developments).
