Are you a conflict management practitioner who is interested in joining a dynamic, enthusiastic and innovative team?
The Conflict Management team at Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is looking for experienced conflict management practitioners to join our team on a permanent basis. The practitioner must be trained in coaching, have facilitated discussion/mediation and have experience in facilitation or group intervention. The position also requires training on a variety of topics related to conflict management.
The Conflict Management team reports to a Manager and includes seven practitioners that are spread out across the country. We offer consultations, conflict coaching, facilitated discussions /mediations as well as group interventions to DFO employees.

The intent of this process is to staff two (2) permanent positions, one located in St. John’s (Newfoundland), and the other in Québec (Québec).
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and could be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, security profiles and language requirements within Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Candidates could be referred for work in the different regions which are Dartmouth (Nova Scotia), Moncton (New Brunswick), Sarnia (Ontario), Ottawa (Ontario) and Vancouver (British Columbia).

Education
- A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience AND
-120 hours of training in conflict resolution (may be part of a degree program) which must include 40 hours of mediation training (documented proof must be provided).
Experience
- Significant* experience in the design and delivery of informal conflict management services in a workplace setting. Examples include conflict coaching, facilitated discussions/mediation and as a third party neutral to both individuals and groups.
- Experience in facilitating, co-facilitating or leading group interventions.
- Significant** experience in the design and delivery of training and awareness sessions on informal conflict management.
- Experience in providing guidance to employees or management on informal conflict management by offering expert advice, analysis and recommendations on conflict prevention and resolution concepts.
* Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired in providing the full range of informal conflict management services in the workplace for a consecutive period of 2 years.
** Significant experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired through the performance of duties on a regular and continuous basis for a period of 1 year.

St.John’s position is English essential and Québec’s position is Bilingual CBC/CBC.

Ability
- Ability to promote Informal Conflict Management System (ICMS) services.
- Ability to design and deliver training and awareness sessions on informal conflict management adapted to adult education.

- Ability to conduct a facilitated discussion/mediation process.

Asset Qualifications
Education
- Certificate or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Conflict Resolution.
- Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Conflict Resolution or in any other field relevant to the work to be performed.
Experience
- Completion of advanced training in conflict coaching.
- Mediation experience: having conducted at least fifteen (15) sessions in the past three (3) years.
- Group intervention experience: having conducted at least three (3) group interventions in the past three (3) years.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
