Established in August 2009, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is the only federal department with an exclusive mandate for the North. The headquarters of CanNor is located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. CanNor also has regional offices in Yukon and the Northwest Territories, and a liaison office in Ottawa.
CanNor's vision is to develop a strong, diversified, sustainable and dynamic economy for Northerners and Indigenous people, communities and businesses across Canada's three Territories. As the smallest of the Government of Canada’s five regional development agencies (less than 100 staff in total), CanNor provides a unique opportunity for individuals looking to be part of a small but mighty organization that leverages its nimbleness to tackle some serious, high-profile socio-economic issues.
In short, this is definitely not just another boring old desk job! This is a rewarding opportunity for motivated and resourceful individuals to make a real difference in the economic and social wellbeing of northern residents; by working directly with communities and businesses, and witnessing first-hand the results of the government’s investments.
The Headquarters of CanNor are located in Iqaluit, Nunavut; Canada’s newest and smallest capital city. With a population of approximately 8,000, Iqaluit is an exciting, dynamic city that is the political, business, media and transportation hub of Nunavut. The city of Iqaluit is rich with traditional Inuit culture, and has many exciting things to offer residents including great recreation programs, a vibrant arts and culture scene and of course, unique landscapes and opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar opportunities with various tenures, various linguistic profiles and various security requirements in the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency.
