The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is a key player in public safety. We are responsible for the supervision and reintegration of offenders serving sentences of two years or more. On a typical day, we manage approximately 15,000 offenders placed within our 43 institutions and more than 8,500 offenders under supervision in the community.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in clinical, forensic or counseling psychology

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience in developing, planning, delivering and evaluating mental health services.
Experience in managing the development and/or implementation of mental health services standards.
Experience in managing projects
Experience managing human and financial resources.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of the ethical and professional standards of practice associated with various health professions.
Knowledge of the principles and applications of mental health services (such as assessment, treatment, programs and crisis intervention), as applied to an adult forensic population.
Knowledge of human resources and financial management principles.

EDUCATION
Doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialisation in clinical, forensic or counselling psychology or in another psychological speciality relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of the Correctional Service of Canada, the Criminal Justice System and its legislative basis, and the relevant provincial legislation governing mental health services.

Knowledge of psychology research methodology and psychometrics, research design, data analysis, and interpretation of results.

Knowledge of mental health issues as they pertain to diverse populations such as federally sentenced women and Aboriginal offenders.

ABILITIES

Ability to develop partnerships.

Ability to develop guidelines for the provision of mental health services in CSC.

To achieve a representative workforce for designated Employment Equity group members.

Occupational Certification:

Registration for autonomous practice of psychology by the provincial registering/licensing body in the province of practice. (Candidates for positions in the Prairie region will be considered to have met the registration criterion if they are registered for autonomous practice in any one of the region’s provinces. For the Atlantic region, candidates will be considered to have met the registration criterion if they are registered in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia).
