Intent of the process

The immediate need is to fill one full time indeterminate position in Comox, BC. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff positions of various tenures (indeterminate, term) and may also be used for staffing similar positions at other locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of a valid Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate in the following field:
- Electrician
OR
- Technician Qualification Level QL6B or DP3B (Electrical Technician)

NOTE: The Technician Qualification will be accepted at time of application,
however, candidates will be required to obtain their Red Seal Certification prior
to appointment. For information on obtaining your Red Seal please visit the
ITA Website for Holders of a Military Trade Certification.

EXPERIENCE:
- EX1: Significant* and Recent** experience in supervision of a multi-trade working group involved in the construction and maintenance of infrastructure.
- EX2: Experience scheduling prioritization of work, evaluating work performance and providing performance feedback.
- EX3: Experience in the use of various software programs such as: Excel, Microsoft Word and Outlook.

*Significant is defined as experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities on a regular basis, for the experience factor in question, which could normally be acquired over a period of approximately two (2) years.

**Recent is defined as experience obtained in the last five (5) years.

EDUCATION:
- Successful completion of a minimum 2 year post-secondary education program in a trade related field.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
AOC1: Supervisory Courses
AOC2: Maintenance Management Courses
AOC3: Planning & Scheduling Courses

AEX1: Experience in the application of Collective Bargaining Agreements
AEX2: Experience in Airfield Maintenance

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- OR1: Willingness and ability to work overtime and/or after hours.
- OR2: Willingness and ability to travel.

OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must be willing to complete courses related to supervision/management within one year of employment (if not already achieved).
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted provincial driver’s licence holding a qualification (class) equivalent to the DND vehicle to be driven/operated.
- A current and acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain the DND 404 military driver's licence.
- Must be willing to wear and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Willing and able to work from ladders, catwalks, scaffolding, roofs and motorized manlifts, reaching, stretching, climbing and bending.
- Willing and able to crouch, crawl, stoop and bend while inspecting confined spaces, excavation sites, vessels, etc.
- Willing and able to work in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time.
