The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is a federal department responsible to ensure the integrity and marketability of grain for the domestic and international grain trade, from producer to global customer.

This position is within the Bread and Durum Wheat Research area at the Grain Research Laboratory. The objective of the program is to ensure Canadian wheat remains the supplier of choice for premium quality. We do this by:
-playing an important role in setting up quality objectives and quality parameters for new variety registration;
-providing scientific support to establish grade tolerances;
-monitoring cargo quality and developing new test methods in order to measure quality more effectively and efficiently;
-researching biochemical properties of wheat and flour components in relation to processing properties and end product quality.
This process will be used to staff 1 full time indeterminate position.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar indeterminate, specified period employment, acting appointments, assignments, secondments or deployments.

Education:
- Graduation with a Masters of Science degree from a recognized university with specialization in a field related to the duties of the position such as: food science, biochemistry, chemistry or related sciences.
Experience:
- Recent* experience performing analytical tests for the evaluation of grain or grain-based food quality.
- Recent* experience with critical assessment of analytical and scientific results.
- Recent* experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments relevant to grain quality evaluation and compositional analysis.
- Recent* experience preparing technical reports and writing method descriptions.
- Recent* experience preparing preliminary manuscripts for publication and delivery of scientific presentations.
- Recent* experience in the supervision of staff.
*Recent is defined as experience obtained within the last 2 years.
Education:
- Ph.D. degree from a recognized university with a specialization in food/grain science, biochemistry, chemistry or related sciences.
Experience:
- Recent* experience in the design and execution of scientific research.
- Recent* experience working with quality control theory and procedures and/or ISO 1702-5 at an advanced level.
- Recent* experience conducting the evaluation of wheat quality.
- Recent* experience managing the operations of a laboratory, including staff and project management.
- Recent* experience with statistical methods used in scientific research and/or analytical testing at an advanced level.
