Duties

The Canadian Forces Housing Agency’s national office is seeking a dynamic Environment Officer to contribute to the delivery of a multi-faceted environment program, delivered across the country.

The successful candidate will be part of a small team of environmental subject matter experts in environmental regulation, both federal and provincial and how it applies to the management of housing infrastructure; and will collaborate regularly with cross-functional teams within CFHA, DND, and other government and industry client-partners and stakeholders.

Key activities will involve all aspects of an environmental program associated with the provision of residential accommodation, to ensure environmental risk is managed for the Agency.

The candidate will show the required skills by:

• Interpreting and applying a variety of environmental regulation and policy;
• Researching, preparing and presenting documentation required for long-term projects (e.g. approvals, statements of work, policies and procedures);
• Communicating environmental risk, provide analysis of options and recommendations;
• Keeping abreast of environmental issues in the national context; and
• Preparing briefing notes and presentations.

Work environment

A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT CFHA...
As a Special Operating Agency reporting to the Department of National Defence (DND), CFHA contributes to the quality of life of CAF members and their families through the provision of housing services, and through the responsible and sustainable management of the Department’s housing infrastructure.

We are a team of 300 federal public servants who work hard to meet the needs of the Canadian Armed Forces families living in DND housing. We have close to 200 employees at our Housing Services Centres across Canada and 100 employees at our Head Office in Ottawa.

Please note that we are not moving to the DND Carling Campus, and currently have free parking. The CFHA Head Office is a 5 minute drive from the Walkley or Hunt Club exits on the 417. Our office is located at 2171 Thurston Drive, Ottawa.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one indeterminate position with a linguistic profile of bilingual imperative BBB/BBB. A pool of qualified candidates may be created with various linguistic profiles

Education:
Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in environmental science, environmental studies or an applied environmental science related to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience in the application of relevant federal, provincial or municipal environmental regulations as they apply to environmental management.

Experience in the research or development of environmental policies or procedures.
