Work environment

The work is performed in a storage environment with periodical use of an office environment. Requires the use of standard office material and equipment as well as equipment designed to move collection items. The work requires the need to climb ladders and operate moving equipment.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to immediately staff five (5) temporary positions for a period of one (1) year with a possibility of extension.

A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various tenures (acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate) within Library and Archives Canada.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of secondary school.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience handling, organizing AND sorting collection items held in an environment similar to a library, museum, records office or an archival centre
Experience in the use of an automated tracking system*
Experience in using various software such as Outlook, Excel AND Word

*An automated Tracking system is a software used for tracking the location of assets.

ASSET EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in library, archival or museum technology.

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE
Experience in data capture or data entry
Experience working with an automated tracking / circulation system for archival material
Experience with handling and transporting collection material
Experience in organizing, and maintaining collections; resolving discrepancies and shelving various material and formats
Experience using power and hand-operated transportation devices, such as: pallet movers, book carts, material transporter, art carts and other transportation devices, to safely and efficiently carry out storage and retrieval operations
Experience with a collection management system such as CMS, MIKAN, AMICUS or TRAKKER

Conditions of employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Reliability clearance

Candidate must be willing to travel to LAC buildings in the National Capital Region

Candidates must be available to work between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., on a schedule determined by the employer as needed.

Wearing safety shoes is mandatory

Physically capable of handling, lifting and shelving collections material weighing up to 22.8 kg and of manipulating transportation devices weighing up to 140 kg

Work in a warehouse / processing room type of environment, which can be sometimes dark, dusty and containing mold

Operate a lift truck and have the ability to obtain its certification during employment

On occasion work overtime on short notice

Candidates must be able to work up to 10 meters in height ( approximately 30 feet in height)
