Work environment

The Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) work together to fulfill the Government of Canada’s mission to defend Canadian interests and values, and to contribute to international peace and security. DND is the largest federal government department in Canada and is part of the Public Service of Canada. Internally, DND and the CAF are collectively termed the Defence Team and civilians make up close to 25 per cent of the organization. Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff one (1) permanent position EG-05 in Winnipeg and one (1) permanent position EG-04 in Shilo.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions, with varying tenures in various locations.

EDUCATION

Successful completion of post-secondary education in engineering technology program related to the duties of the position (mechanical, electrical or other), OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

ALL POSITIONS
EX2: Experience in providing engineering support services for planning, design, construction, operation or maintenance.
EX3: Experience conducting inspections for a variety of Building Systems.
EX4: Experience in application of regulations for building systems.
EX5: Experience in the use of MS Office applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
EX6: Experience in project management.

Recent * and significant **experience in the execution of work as well as in the management of contracts in the construction field.

(*Recent means in the last five (5) years, and **Significant means a cumulative period of at least three (3) years

EX1: Experience in producing drawings and specifications for mechanical related work for Building Systems such as Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, fire suppression and controls.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
OC1: Possession of a valid journeyman's certificate or ticket in a major residential building trade or related certification such as a QL5.
OC2: Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist with Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professional (ASET) or Technician/Technologist certification
OC3: Project Management Certificate

EXPERIENCE
AEX1: Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering or technical environment.
AEX2: Experience in one or more of the following:
• Project Management
• Drafting
• Preparation of drawings using AutoCAD
• Contract Administration and Inspections
• Preparing construction documents for public tender.
AEX3: Experience in government contracting procedures.
AEX4: Experience in construction designing, specification writing and/or detailing and preparing working drawings in accordance with the National Building Code of Canada and other affiliated codes and standards of a specific discipline.
AEX4: Experience in major capital renovations.
AEX5: Experience in planning annual and multi-year realty asset programs

KNOWLEDGE
EG-04 (Shilo):
AK1: Knowledge of design requirements for HVAC systems
