The immediate need is to staff immediately 1 permanent position in Quebec, QC and 1 anticipatory position in St. John’s, NL OR Dartmouth, NS . A pool of qualified candidates may be created and may be used to staff similar positions within Environment and Climate Change Canada, with various tenures, various language requirements and profiles, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences, with specialization in wildlife biology, toxicology, ecotoxicology, or another scientific field related to the duties of the position.
PRODUCTIVITY AND RECOGNITION:
Productivity or recognition is required for all positions in the Research Scientist sub-group (SE-RES) (Revised October 1, 1999).
Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:
• Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems;
• Operational research and scientific analysis;
• Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.
EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral experience in the conception, planning, conducting and reporting on laboratory- and field-based research on the effects of toxic chemicals or other environmental stressors on wildlife and ecosystems.
• Experience in making oral presentations on scientific research results.
• Experience in providing information and science-based advice to various audiences such as senior management, risk assessors, scientists, and the general public on a range of scientific issues.
• Experience in developing collaborative relationships, in participating in research teams, and in supervising technical staff including graduate students or summer students.
• Significant* experience contributing to the scientific literature in the field of wildlife biology, toxicology, ecotoxicology or a related field in the form of published scientific reports and articles
* Significant is defined as evidence of publication of approximately 6 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and of these, the candidate must have been the first author of approximately half of them
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in wildlife toxicology, particularly involving birds or other wildlife species.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness and ability to work in the field, possibly in adverse environmental conditions and remote areas.
• Must be able to travel by various means of transportation (e.g. car, plane, boat) to conduct field research and attend meetings and conferences
