Duties

The Geodetic Survey Division provides authoritative reference values, products and services available on-line for the integration of precise positioning and gravity measurements into national standards. These products serve as the common foundation for all mapping, charting, navigation, boundary demarcation, crustal deformation, and other georeferencing needs in Canada.

EN-SUR-02: As member of a project team, organize and conduct activities related to the development and operation of one or more geodetic techniques or methods such as: global satellite navigation systems, altimetry, gravity, geoid modeling or control network adjustment. Implement automated processes for the operation, maintenance and improvement of the Canadian Spatial Reference System (CSRS).

EN-SUR-03: Provide scientific knowledge and technical expertise to maintain and enhance solutions that support the use of the Canadian Spatial Reference System (CSRS) as the authoritative national standard for precise georeferencing. Collaborate with clients, partners and stakeholders in geomatics and the geosciences to facilitate the adoption of CSRS products and services.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates will be established through this process and may be used to staff identical or similar positions (full-time) at the EN-SUR-02 and EN-SUR-03 group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential or Bilingual), various methods for staffing a bilingual position (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and in various locations.

►Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice or other related field such as geodesy, geomatics, geodetic sciences, remote sensing, geophysics, physics or mathematics. The degree must be obtained by end of June 2019.

►Knowledge of precise georeferencing concepts and supporting space-based technologies.

►Ability to develop and implement solutions for processing and combining geodetic and related data.

►Masters or PhD in science from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Geodesy or other related field.
►Degree, Diploma or Certificate in IT technology (i.e. programming, networks, databases, web) from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

►Experience applying least-squares estimation methods to geodetic measurements.
►Experience processing precise GNSS data with scientific software (e.g. Gamit, Gipsy, Bernese, Napeos).
►Experience operating and managing geodetic networks.
►Experience with geoid or geodynamic modeling.
