The Workplace Solutions service line ensures that work environments are modern, efficient, productive, sustainable, inclusive, and include mobile and flexible technologies.
Our service line is responsible for delivering its services throughout their life cycle, nationally, including continual service improvement and workplace solutions capacity planning. The service lead also leverages Project Management, Shared Services Canada, and other stakeholders to deliver workplace solutions in an integrated fashion.
Workplace Solutions have developed a new vision for the Government of Canada named GCworkplace. This vision is shared across the Government of Canada and now guides Public Services and Procurement Canada’s decisions as they relate to the workplace solutions offered to federal departments and agencies and the delivery of workplace modernization projects.
The Senior Design Manager and the Senior Workplace Strategist are resources within the Interior Design division of Workplace Solutions, a dynamic team mandated to provide modern, flexible, efficient, sustainable and inclusive work spaces and to support client departments as they embark on their workplace modernization journey and change the way they work.
This process has 2 streams. NEITHER OF THESE STREAMS INCLUDE SUPERVISORY DUTIES.
STREAM 1: SENIOR DESIGN MANAGER
Operations: The Interior Design Operations division provides design management services on accommodation projects. Design management is a broad and comprehensive function that includes quality assurance services and requires a clear understanding of accommodation project objectives and constraints. It is a collaborative role providing strategic and technical interior design advice to Project Managers in the development and delivery of projects while ensuring the design services related to the project are of a level and quality that meet the expectations of all stakeholders throughout all phases of the project.
The Senior Design Manager is typically assigned to projects that are unusually and exceedingly complex, and /or subject to high public exposure. The work has substantive and ongoing team leadership responsibilities for a team of up to 4 people.
The main duties include:
•Lead interior design services on projects
•Establish or participate in the preparation of project parameters.
•Manage furniture specification and procurement services.
•Provide strategic advice in complex projects.
•Develop or participate in the development of functional and technical analysis.
•Develop or participate in the development of project budgets.
•Lead and coordinate quality assurance services.
•Evaluate and negotiate proposals in accordance with contractual requirements.
•Act as GCworkplace ambassador for workplace design
STREAM 2: SENIOR WORKPLACE STRATEGIST
Interior Design National Centre of Expertise (IDNCOE): The ID NCOE is responsible for developing the interior design strategy for Federal Government workplaces. Through research and innovation, the ID NCOE develops tools, documents and processes to support interior design professionals who deliver Government fit-up projects across the country. They continuously innovate, test and reiterate to ensure that GoC employees have modern, inclusive workplaces that support the various activities they perform.
The incumbent will participate in the development of new tools and processes; he/she will act as Senior Workplace Strategist and will be lead on various initiatives, offer presentations and information sessions to stakeholders and clients, research the latest innovations in workplace design and support the Operational Design Managers.
The main duties include:
•Research and keep abreast of the latest innovations and best practices related to interior design in the workplace;
•Develop workplace design strategies that are in line with the GCworkplace vision;
•Lead various design related initiatives;
•Identify need for, and develop or update tools, documents and processes;
•Act as GCworkplace ambassador;
•Deliver presentations and information sessions to various audiences, such as; Design Managers, interior design professionals, clients, internal and external stakeholders, etc.;
•Participate in exchanges and discussions with various internal and external stakeholders;
•Liaise with other PSPC groups such as Operations, Change Management, Communications, Outreach and Engagement, Policy, Technical Services, etc.;
•Provide support to Design Managers and project teams

EDUCATION
Successful completion of an acceptable post-secondary educational program of at least 3 years in the field of interior design or architectural technology or an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience *.
* Definition of acceptable combination: Candidates who do not meet the minimum education required must have at least 5 years experience in providing professional interior design services, education and (or) training related to interior design.
EXPERIENCE
1. Recent* and significant** experience leading a multidisciplinary team of resources in the delivery of interior design projects.
2. Recent* and significant** experience in front-end project planning, including activities and projects stages such as but not limited to: needs analysis, functional programming, feasibility studies, and other interior design tasks.
3. Recent* and significant** experience in preparation of scopes of work and fees proposal for design services, functional programming or design advisory services.
4. Recent*** and significant experience** in working with AutoCAD.
*Acquired experience within the last ten years.
**Significant experience will be evaluated on the basis of duration, scope, timeliness, complexity and diversity of the work performed and level of responsibility for a wide variety of jobs and/or realized projects.
***Acquired experience within the last five years.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Additional education or certification related to interior design.
EXPERIENCE
1. Experience in working on Government of Canada interior design projects
2. Experience in developing furniture procurement strategies such as, but not limited to: preparing contract documents or managing furniture contracts.
