• Under general supervision/instruction, performs field/greenhouse activities for orchard and vineyard maintenance of plantings, potted plants and research field plot related to scientific programs.
• Work includes pruning, field preparation, planting, spraying, mowing, and irrigation work.
• Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, as well as greenhouse and field equipment.
• With valid licences and certificates, operates and services vehicles and equipment, in a scientific research environment, such as trucks, tractors, E-Gators, chainsaws, and weed eaters.
• Performs data collection activities using a variety of electronic and manual methods.
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements.

Pesticide Applicator’s Licence from British Columbia.
Experience in data collection and data entry for research purposes.
Experience in vineyard production.
Experience operating an air blast sprayer.
Experience operating orchard/vineyard tractors.
Experience operating chainsaws.
Knowledge of application, handling, storage and disposal of fertilizers.
Knowledge of application, handling, storage and disposal of pesticides.
Knowledge of irrigation systems such as trickle and micro-irrigation.
Reliability Status security clearance
Possession of a valid Driver’s licence.
Ability and willingness to work overtime including evenings and weekends.
Ability and willingness to work under various environmental and weather conditions.
Ability and willingness to work with chemicals and pesticides.
Ability and willingness to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 kg.
Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a BC pesticide applicators certificate.
Ability to control allergies through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
