General shipboard maintenance and performance of deck operations as part of work programs aboard a Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) ship as directed by the Commanding Officer, Boatswain or Coxswain.

Maintenance, operational and custodial services for the Watchkeeping Engineer of a Canadian Coast Guard ship

Intent of the process

This inventory is primarily for short term employment. In certain circumstances, longer-term temporary employment may be offered. This inventory is primarily for casual employment which is temporary employment of 90 working days or less, in a calendar year per federal department.

If appointed to a position, the location associated with the position will become the employee's homeport and travel to and from the homeport will be the employee's responsibility. A candidate may change / update the location he/she is applying for at any time prior to being offered a position resulting from this process.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Possession of valid Marine Emergency Duties certificates (STCW Basic Safety [A1 & B2] + Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats [B1] issued by Transport Canada.

Conditions of employment

- Valid Reliability Security Clearance.
- Valid Health Canada Medical for seagoing personnel.
- Maintain a valid Certificate of Competency.
- Requirement to go to sea for prolonged periods of time and in adverse weather conditions.
- Requirement to wear and maintain a uniform, safety footwear, and personal protective equipment to Canadian Coast Guard standards.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime as required.
- Willingness to be deployed within the Atlantic Region.
- Compliance with the CCG Safety Management System and Standards.
- Adherence to the Canadian Coast Guard Respiratory Protection Program.
- For vessels assigned primarily to Search and Rescue operations, employees must be within 30 minutes response time to the vessel during assigned work period.
- Valid Canadian Passport (for identified positions).
- Must be willing and able to travel by air, land or by sea.

The retest period for re-assessment within the context of this selection process is 6 months from the date of elimination at either the interview or reference stage of the process. If you submit an application to this selection process before the retest period has elapsed your application will not be considered. If you are eliminated at the screening stage, you are encouraged to resubmit your application once you meet the essential qualifications identified for screening.
