Please note that the position is currently under classification review. The current classification of the positions is (group/level) however, as a result of a review, the position may be reclassified to a different group and level. Once the classification of the position is determined, we will have confirmation of the established group and level for this position. Should the classification not be completed upon completion of the process, we will proceed with indeterminate appointments of qualified candidates at the (group/level) group and level, and we will proceed with a reclassification of the employee afterwards.
In a learning and developmental environment, the candidate is responsible for:
• Examining, assessing, servicing, repairing, refitting and inputting data on all types of firearms;
• Refinishing all types of firearms;
• Contributing to the design, fabrication, and specifications of new and customized firearms;
• Designing and fabricating various tools, jigs, fixtures and gauges to fabricate and modify weapons and conducting testing, repair, maintenance and inspections;
• Generating detailed technical reports on specific repair and testing processes.
The immediate need is to staff two positions in Regina on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of English essential and an RCMP Enhanced Reliability security clearance
A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in Regina and the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

• Licensed Tradesperson* with strong mechanical aptitudes from the following/ industrial trades: Machinist, Millwright, Tool & Die Fabricator, Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic.
• Documented completion of technical courses in machine shop
* NOTE: 3rd and 4th year apprentices in these trades will be considered if completion of trade school and trade hours can be documented.
• Extensive* experience in firearms technology including documented completion of a recognized armourer/ gunsmithing course such as: Colorado School of Trades “Gunsmithing, “Centre de formation de la Haute Gatineau (Réparation D’armes à feu) or other.
• Several years of experience with machine shop equipment
• Several years of experience in mechanical trades
• Experience in fabricating various tools, jigs, fixtures and gauges
*Extensive experience is identified as the depth & breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of or complex-related activities for approximately 3 years.
Operational Requirements

• As part of the selection process for the Understudy Program, members must agree to participate in, and meet, all the requirements for the RCMP Armourer Section Understudy Program.

Successful candidates have to pass a medical examination. This factor is not used in the pre-selection stage. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is responsible for the medical clearance process.
