Key activities of the Senior Commodity Advisor include:
• Initiate, plan and conduct comprehensive and integrated research and analysis of sectors of responsibility and associated issues to enable senior management and Council members’ decision-making.
• Provide expert advice to senior management and Council members on complex and sensitive issues and provide recommendations including risks and options, considering external factors, trends and emerging issues.
• Identify, establish and maintain a network of senior contacts and strategic alliances with national and provincial supply managed agencies, AAFC, other government departments, provincial governments, industry stakeholders, to exchange information related to supply management within the poultry and egg sectors.
• Represent FPCC by conducting outreach activities with industry stakeholders to solicit intelligence and to convey FPCC’s publically available information to stakeholders.
• Prepare and/or deliver briefing notes, presentations, correspondence, and other information products for different audiences including senior management, Council members, AAFC, other departments, supply managed agencies, etc.
The Farm Products Council of Canada (FPCC) is a federal oversight body. It oversees the operations of the national supply management agencies for poultry and eggs, as well as national promotion and research agencies for farm products created under the Farm Products Agencies Act (FPAA). FPCC is also responsible for administering the Agricultural Products Marketing Act jointly with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
FPCC is located on the Experimental Farm and as a small federal organization, offers a dynamic work environment where employees competencies can make a real difference.
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in agriculture, agri-food, economics, commerce, business or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position.

Experience:
Significant experience* in working with dairy and/or poultry and egg industry stakeholders.
Significant experience* in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with government and agricultural and agri-food stakeholders.
Experience in identifying, researching and analyzing domestic and international market issues and trends affecting the dairy and/or poultry and egg sectors.
*Significant experience means experience that is a core part of the candidate’s employment for a period of time that would provide the depth and breadth of experience normally obtained over the course of at least two (2) years.
Master’s degree from a recognized university with an acceptable specialization in a field related to the position.
Experience in the analysis of dairy and/or poultry and egg industry issues and market trends.
Knowledge of Canada’s supply management system.
