Performs full-cycle software development (business analysis, conceptual design, physical application design, development, testing and debugging, deployment, documentation, source control, versioning and upgrades) for custom specialized software applications and databases to provide scientific workflow enhancement tools or companion applications to the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), in a nationally distributed, accredited laboratory environment.
Consults with scientific staff to perform workflow and business analysis, as well as design and development of database objects to support the application (tables, views, triggers, stored procedures, indexes, etc.)
Works with other members of the Scientific Services team to provide expertise in database administration (backup and restore, data consistency, database/server monitoring and tuning, data replication setup and maintenance, disaster recovery).
Provides end-user technical support to scientific staff across Canada for applications developed by FS&IS and other laboratory databases as required.
Develops and provides technical support for various Cognos reports, Crystal reports, and Microsoft Word VBA templates as required to ensure their availability and functionality.
Performs data modeling for Business Intelligence purposes.
Provides consultative expertise to management in regards to strategies, technologies, timelines and best practices for enhancing program/service delivery using innovative custom laboratory software solutions.
Manages projects dealing with the planning of software implementations, and/or conversion of systems or data as required.

The work is performed in an environment with intermittent distractions such as office or server noise and interruptions from telephone and visitors. The work involves daily exposure to glare from the computer screen and the requirement to sit for extended. As part of the criminal investigation process, there is lack of control over the pace of work and there is no tolerance for error.

The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of English essential and an RCMP Secret security clearance
A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Notification regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Secret security clearance - All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.
