Under the general supervision of the Director of the Industrial Innovation Group:
• Support the development and delivery of bioenergy and biorefinery S&T programs
• Promote and enforce Health and Safety activities in the workplace
• Manage the budget and resources assigned to the Bioenergy Systems group
• Support the delivery of projects
• Promote staff engagement activities
• Promote effective administration
• Lead the planning of equipment and facility needs
CanmetENERGY is Canada’s leading research and technology organization in the field of clean energy. CanmetENERGY-Ottawa engages in research and development in the areas of energy efficiency, clean fossil fuels and renewable and alternative energy sources, in the transition to a low-carbon future. We are one of four national laboratories under the Minister of Natural Resources Canada dedicated to research, development and deployment of energy science and technology solutions for Canada.
CanmetENERGY-Ottawa’s mission supports the Minister’s mandate by leading the development of energy S&T solutions for the environmental and economic benefit of Canadians. We foster a broad range of successful research partnerships with manufacturers, academia, planners, builders, and all levels of government, by working collaboratively to identify, test and innovate products and processes beneficial to the lives of Canadians.
The intent of this process is to staff one EN-ENG-05 position on an indeterminate basis.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar EN-ENG-05 positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements (imperative and non-imperative), various bilingual profiles (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience supervising and training subordinate staff, including direct reports, with the responsibility of formally assessing performance.
Experience working with colleagues from other parts of the organization on related projects with limited, shared resources.
Experience developing and reviewing technical and financial project proposals in response to requests for proposals by funding agents and for unsolicited proposals to clients.
Experience in advising senior management on planning activities including S&T activities, Human Resources (HR), assignment of access to facilities, and planning the acquisition and construction of equipment.
Experience with the preparation and negotiation of agreements with collaborators, clients, and stakeholders.
Experience with the maintenance of health and safety standards for hazardous pilot plant and industrial operations.
Bilingual - Non Imperative (CBC/CBC)

Advanced degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in science or engineering, or multiple bachelor or equivalent degrees in sciences related to the position.

Significant * experience in planning, leading and monitoring human, financial and technical resources of engineering projects.
Extensive ** experience in the field of bioenergy and biorefining research and development.
*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired after performing the duties for 3 years.
