The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions of various tenures in various divisions within Aquatic Ecosystems at Fisheries and Oceans Canada (Maritimes Region).

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with a specialization in biology, environmental science or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams to evaluate human impacts on aquatic environments;
• Experience reviewing and evaluating impacts of one or more of the following on freshwater aquatic species or their environments: 1) stream crossings for roads or pipelines; 2) storage of water or surface water withdrawals; 3) dam construction or operations; 4) projects restricting or impeding fish passage.
EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a Masters or Doctoral degree from a recognized university in a program or specialization in freshwater aquatic environments.
• Diploma or degree in environmental/water resource engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience regulating impacts of human activities on freshwater aquatic species or their habitats;
• Experience researching impacts of human activities on freshwater aquatic species or their habitats;
• Experience reviewing engineered drawings and/or in performing hydrologic, hydraulic and hydrodynamic analysis using various modeling tools and/ or experience conducting fluvial geomorphological assessments;
• Experience with the assessment and/or mitigation of hydroelectric impacts on aquatic species and their habitats.

• Knowledge of freshwater aquatic species in Atlantic Canada, including their habitat requirements and life history characteristics;
• Knowledge of human-induced threats to freshwater aquatic species in Atlantic Canada, and measures to mitigate these threats.
