Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is looking for an Internal Communications Advisor to join our team. If you are innovative, creative and a person who wants to make a difference, show us what you've got!
The Communications Advisor will work as part of a diverse and dynamic communications team within WD that works closely with policy and program areas to:
• develop communication strategies that raise knowledge and awareness of our organization, demonstrate results, and link objectives to compelling results and outcomes;
• develop innovative internal communication practices and activities;
•effectively manage relationships with other government organizations at all levels, external stakeholders, communities and partners;
• facilitate events and activities that advance the objectives of WD at all levels; and
• collaborate and coordinate media relation activities to promote our organizations strategic investments that strengthen Western Canada’s innovation system and a competitive and expanded business sector in Western Canada.
WD promotes the development and diversification of the economy of Western Canada and advances the interests of the West in national economic policy. Our initiatives contribute to:
1. A strengthened western Canadian innovation system (Innovation) and a competitive and expanded business sector in Western Canada (Business Development and Entrepreneurship); and
2. Economically viable communities in Western Canada with a high quality of life (Community Economic Development).

We intend to fill one permanent full-time position through this process. A pool of qualified candidates may be created for similar vacancies of various tenures and could be shared with Government of Canada organizations.

Your résumé.
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in communications, journalism or a field relevant to the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Recent* and significant** experience providing communications advice and services.
Experience writing communication products, including communication strategies, events and creative materials for internal and external audiences.
Recent experience in planning events and providing related logistical support to a senior official (such as a Minister, Member of Parliament or senior management).
*Recent within the last three (3) years.
**Significant is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex, related activities for a minimum of two (2) years.
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge of modern and innovative internal communication practices, initiatives and tactics.
Knowledge of regional economic development issues in the West.

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, while dealing with conflicting priorities.

Ability to edit and proofread communications products for grammar and content.
Ability to write web content and utilize programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.
Experience in managing the development and production of web-based multimedia and print publications.
Experience working in internal communications for any level of government.
Secret security clearance
Willingness to travel and work overtime on short notice, including on weekends as required.
Must possess a current and valid driver’s licence.
