In addition to salary, you are entitled to an isolated posts allowance. This can range from $18,000 to $33,000 per year, depending on the number of dependants, geographic location and whether the accommodation is provided by the Crown. You are also entitled to vacation travel allowance of approximately $2,000 to $3,000 twice a year for you and each eligible dependant.

Intent of the process

We would like to hire a candidate for an indeterminate position located in Iqaluit.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established to fill similar or identical positions in the future at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) or other federal departments and agencies located in Nunavut. Please note that the tenure or security requirements may vary.

The following criteria will be assessed using your resume and the screening questions we ask you to complete online. To ensure that you are selected, you must demonstrate when, where and how you acquired each of the qualifications by giving concrete examples.

Here is what you must have to be selected:

• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.

Degree equivalency

• Experience working in the field of land use planning or resource management.
• Experience working on a project/initiative or in a working group that involves a collaborative process.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

The following criteria will be assessed using your resume and online screening questions. However, they are only assets, so you do not need to meet them to be selected, but preference could be given to those who have them.

Here are the assets we are looking for:

• Post-secondary education in urban and regional planning or related field, or an acceptable combination of education, training, or experience.
• A Nunavut Sivuniksavut Program completed.

Degree equivalency

• Experience working in a northern environment.
• Experience working in a cross cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit culture and values.
• Experience working in the context of the Nunavut Agreement.

You will have to communicate, both in writing and orally, in English as part of your work.

Information on language requirements

The following criteria are essential for the job, but they will be assessed later using different assessment methods (written exam, interview, reference check, etc.):

• Knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement.
• Knowledge of principles and best practices of land use planning.
• Knowledge of public participation and other stakeholder engagement techniques within a land use planning context.

• Ability to provide advice to decision-makers.
• Ability to provide strategic advice and recommendations in order to meet the interests of the department as well as for a variety of external groups.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including developing and delivering presentations to various audiences.

In addition to having the knowledge and abilities mentioned above, you are a person with a good ability to adapt and who:

• Demonstrates integrity
• Works effectively with others
• Shows initiative and is action-oriented

These are assets that are assessed later, but you do not need to meet them to be considered qualified. However, please note that preference may be given to those for whom this is the case.

You should also be aware that when you take up your duties, you have to be willing to work overtime, depending on operational needs.

Conditions of employment

The following condition must be met on taking up the position and maintained throughout the employment:

• Willing to travel on small aircraft

The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Reliability Security Clearance and Medical Clearance prior to taking up the position.
