The Chief of Web Publishing will support the Manager of and the Director of Digital and Creative Services to ensure the operational excellence of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s (DFO) intranet and internet web presences, including oversight of front-end integration and web publishing work. You will also collaborate with various stakeholders across the department, including the Information Management and Information Technology Team.
The Chief of Web Publishing is DFO’s web production maestro. As the team’s conductor, he/she:
• Supervises web front-end integrators and web publishers to develop and maintain the department’s internet and intranet sites, as well as ensure the quality of these sites in terms of standards related to code and accessibility.
• Leads, manages and directs project teams in the development, implementation and delivery of high profile web and digital communications initiatives and projects.
• Provides advice on web integration and publishing, especially in terms of Government of Canada requirements such as the Communications Policy and Web Standards.
• Supports the presentation of content on DFO’s internet and intranet sites.

EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

EXPERIENCE:
EX1) Significant experience* in evaluating websites and other online digital products for quality assurance and compliance to standards
EX2) Recent experience** in planning, coordinating and publishing digital online products for complex websites***
EX3) Recent experience** working in a client service environment with a high volume of work, and in dealing with client issues
EX4) Recent experience** leading or supervising web publishing teams of at least two people
EX5) Experience in providing digital communications advice
* Significant experience is defined as having performed a broad range of various and complex activities normally associated with a consecutive two (2) year period in a related field.
** Recent experience is defined as experience normally acquired in the three (3) year period immediately prior to the closing date of the advertisement for this process.
***Complex websites include characteristics such as the following: over 1000 pages, multi-levelled structure and navigation, databases or other applications, various digital content, many sections or subdomains.
ASSET EXPERIENCE
AEX1. Experience in maintaining, creating and publishing web products using HTML 5 or a similar markup language.
AEX2. Experience in working with an enterprise-level web content management system (WCMS) such as Drupal, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or OpenText Web Site Management.
AEX3. Experience working with open source tools such as the Web Experience Toolkit (WET).
