Defence Scientists (DS) are career managed within a person-oriented system. EDUCATION
Graduation with a Master’s Degree or Doctorate from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in engineering, chemistry, physics, materials science or some other specialty relevant to the position.
Note:
1. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience developing and executing a research project to completion.
• Experience writing and having published peer-reviewed scientific publications
• Experience in either the measurement of acoustic properties of materials or the modeling of acoustic properties of materials.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Experience managing or working as part of multi-disciplinary research teams.
• Experience formulating, proposing, conducting, and leading research and development projects.
• Experience working with the military or in performing research for defense applications.
• Experience undertaking research on behalf of and reporting results and recommendations to industrial, commercial or government clients.
• Experience developing partnerships with research organizations for collaboration.
• Experience in both the measurement of acoustic properties of materials and the modeling of acoustic properties of materials.
• Experience in measuring material properties of rubbers.
• Experience in measuring mechanical properties of materials.
• Experience with finite element modeling of material properties.
• Experience with the measurement or modeling of acoustic metamaterials.
• Experience in the design and synthesis of acoustic materials

• Knowledge of military client needs, particularly the Royal Canadian Navy, defence scientific programs, or current defence technology.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• May be required to travel by commercial air, economy class, within North America several times a year for short durations (courses, conferences, meetings, trials, etc.)
• May be required to conduct scientific fieldwork onboard naval platforms and other vessels.
• May be required to work overtime.
• May be required to work in confined spaces.
• May be required to work outside in adverse conditions.
• May be required to participate in other consulting and research and development tasks, as and when required.
• Adheres to safety procedures including, but not limited to wearing product specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, gloves applicable to the process being performed, safety glasses, and other required equipment.
Reliability Status security clearance - Must be willing and able to obtain and retain a Secret (Level II) security clearance.
