The Technical Services Team, as part of Operations, is seeking a Research Technologist to support the delivery of pilot plant testing services for applied research conducted at CanmetENERGY in Devon. The Technical Services Team is a multidisciplinary team of about 20 professional and technical staff responsible for operation of world-class pilot-scale facilities with specialty toward hydrocarbon extraction, upgrading, and refining as well as renewable fuel development. The team works with both internal CanmetENERGY in Devon R&D teams and external industrial clients to ensure pilot plant projects are executed safely and to the clients’ needs. It is a dynamic environment with the team working on multiple projects at any given time. Current pilot plant facilities include a variety of both batch units and continuous plants with feed rates in the range of a less than a litre a day to over a litre a minute.
The Research Technologist will support and conduct plant construction, modification, maintenance, and operations safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project objectives and CanmetENERGY in Devon procedures. This will include hands-on in-the-plant work, controlling aspects of pilot plants from a computer control system, and documentation.

The CanmetENERGY laboratory in Devon (AB) brings together scientists, engineers, and technologists in a state-of-the-art R&D facility for innovation in energy technology. We focus on providing innovation solutions for the environmentally-responsible production and processing of hydrocarbon and renewable resources, and for mitigating the associated environmental impacts of these operations. CanmetENERGY in Devon collaborates with industry, provincial/territorial government, academic institutions, and international organizations in research, development, and deployment of new technologies and innovations. Our highly qualified research staff are capable of handling the most complex theoretical and practical project tasks related to the production, processing, and transportation of oil sands bitumen and petroleum products and have the skills and experience to move projects from concept to bench-scale to pilot-scale testing..
The intent of this process is to staff two EG-03 positions for a determinate period of two years.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar EG-03 positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.)), various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.
This pool will be partially assessed (subject to successful completion of education), therefore students who expect to complete their studies by June 30, 2021 are encouraged to apply.

Successful completion of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in Chemical Engineering Technology, Petroleum Technology, Environmental Technology or some other specialty relevant to the duties of the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
