Duties

•Keep abreast of research and development projects with the scientist in charge;
•Participate in the development of experimental protocols according to the objectives of research projects for the manufacture of dairy products in the pilot plant;
•Plan, organize and carry out dairy manufacturing trials in the pilot plan;
•Ensure the safety of raw materials and dairy products manufactured in the pilot plant;
•Ensure that the composition of the products manufactured in the pilot plant meets the targets established in the experimental protocols;
•Maintain the various dairy processing equipment of the pilot plant in good working order;
•Compile data, prepare tables and figures, write reports and present results at meetings.

Work environment

The Centre focuses on conducting research and developing methods to preserve food and maintain its quality, and to process food safely and efficiently. Research is also conducted on food ingredients having health and other benefits beyond basic nutritional values.

Food safety is also a major area of research, and in doing this work, the Centre collaborates with the University of Montreal's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Through the Centre's Industrial Program, pilot plants are leased to agri-food companies in support of their small-scale food processing and testing needs.

Intent of the process

Immediate need: To staff one (1) indeterminate full-time position for the location indicated for this process.

A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures for the location indicated in the poster.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

EDUCATION
Postsecondary diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in natural science, physical science or applied science,
or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

EXPERIENCE
Experience in carrying out technical development projects in dairy processing in a plant.

Recent* and significant** experience* in dairy formulation and processing in a plant, especially different types of cheese.

Experience in coaching and training human resources and distributing work.

Experience in operating, in taking care of the maintenance of food processing.


* Recent experience is defined as experience in performing the duties normally acquired within the last five (5) years.

** Significant experience is defined as experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities which could normally be acquired over a period of approximately 2 years.
