Intent of the process

The purpose of this process is to staff 1 English essential position for a period of 12 months.

This process also aims at establishing a pool of fully or partially qualified candidates to staff similar positions Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate or indeterminate), with various linguistic requirements and profiles (French essential, English essential, bilingual imperative or bilingual non-imperative; BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry, environmental sciences, biology/ecology, forestry, physical geography, renewable resources, atmospheric sciences, hydrology or some other science relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

*Significant experience gathering, analysing, and interpreting ecological or natural resources data.
*Significant experience in statistical analysis and statistical software usage.
*Significant experience in spatial analysis in geographic information system (GIS) software.
*Significant experience working in environmental science or related field.

*Significant means at least two years professionally employed in the field, or graduate studies in environmental sciences, hydrology, engineering, or some other science relevant to the position.

Knowledge of forestry, ecology, or forest wildland fire science.

Graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of natural or physical sciences related to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience in writing technical/scientific reports and peer reviewed articles.
Experience with boreal or cordilleran wildfire or ecological analysis.
Experience in modelling wildland fires or fire behavior.
Experience in using remote sensing methods.
Experience in fieldwork in environmental sciences.

Knowledge of fire danger rating systems in Canada.
Knowledge of advanced statistical and geospatial (GIS) methods.
Knowledge of ecological modeling concepts and methods.

Statistical programming skills in R , Python (or equivalent programming language) for large datasets.
Ability to organize and carry out research and development (R&D) projects.
