During winter months, removes snow, water, ice and other surface contaminants from taxiways, runways, aprons, public access roads, parking areas, meteorological and telecommunications sites, boundary lights and other airfield, airport surfaces and drainage systems.
During summer months, maintains and improves conditions of runways, taxiways, aprons, roads, and other airport access areas, ditches and storm drainage systems.
Performs preventive maintenance duties and minor repairs on equipment and structures. Assists other trades with major repairs that do not require specialized training or journeyman proficiency.
The intent of this process is to staff 1 (one) GL-MDO-06 full-time position on an indeterminate basis in Churchill, Manitoba.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar indeterminate, specified period employment, acting appointments, assignments, secondments or deployments.

A secondary school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent (GED) diploma.
Possession of a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license.
Experience in heavy and light equipment operations (such as operating a loader, skidder, grader, mobile crane, hydraulic excavator, crawler tractor or industrial tractor).
Possession of an CPR/First Aid Level 1 certificate (or equivalent).

Experience in applying anti-icing and de-icing chemicals to pavement surfaces.
Experience in bird and wildlife control methods, techniques and procedures used at Airports.
Two years' experience in heavy and light equipment operations (such as operating a loader, skidder, grader, mobile crane, hydraulic excavator, crawler tractor or industrial tractor).
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment combinations (runway sweepers, snow blowers, loaders, etc.).
Knowledge of capabilities of Windows Operating System.
Ability to prioritize work schedules.
Ability to carry out basic running maintenance and minor running repairs on heavy equipment.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and make decisions.
Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a Radio Operator’s Restricted Certificate (Aeronautical).
Willingness and ability to pass Class 3 driver’s license road test with air brakes endorsement within 6 months of employment.
Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) within 6 months of employment.
Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP) within 1 month of employment.
Reliability Status security clearance
Willingness and ability to successfully complete Transport Canada’s Airfield Maintenance Training Program.
Willingness and ability to work overtime, variable hours and weekends.
Willingness and ability to work stand-by (If required, be able to report for duty normally within 30 minutes).
Willingness and ability to Travel for training and to offsite work locations may be required.
Successful completion of pre-employment medicals and periodic medicals is required.
Willingness and ability to wear CSA approved safety footwear and other personal protective equipment (PPE).

ISOLATED POST ALLOWANCE:
In addition to the hourly rate of pay, the positions in Churchill, MB are subject to an Environmental Allowance, Fuel and Utilities Differential, and a Living Cost Differential as per the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive:
ENVIRONMENTAL ALLOWANCE:
- Employee with dependants: $3.90 per hour
- Employee without dependants: $2.34 per hour
FUEL & UTILITIES DIFFERENTIAL:
- Employee with dependants: $2.22
- Employee without dependants: $1.33
LIVING COST DIFFERENTIAL:
- Employee with dependants: $6.22 per hour
- Employee without dependants: $3.74 per hour
The hourly rates listed above are applicable to those employees whose scheduled hours of work are 40 per week.
