Working at the Canadian Forces Housing Agency (CFHA) will give you the chance to learn, excel and engage in meaningful work by providing housing services to Canadian Armed Forces members and their families. We are a team of 300 federal public servants who work hard to ensure that Canadian Armed Forces families have a good quality of life while living in Department of National Defence housing. We have close to 200 employees at our Housing Services Centres across Canada and 100 employees at our Head Office in Ottawa.

Do you have experience in home inspections and helping customers resolve technical housing issues?

This position will be working from our base site in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan with required travel to our Dundurn site at least one to two days per week.

The main duties of this position include but is not limited to the following:

• Provision of support services related to housing, facilities, real assets and customer service at local site of a small housing service centre of Canadian Forces Housing Agency.
• Identify repair maintenance work to prepare houses for allocation.
• Raise and manage work orders and contracts with respect to technical operational issues.
• Monitor and verify that work performed by various trades is carried out in accordance with contract requirements and all applicable federal, provincial and municipal code standards with authority to accept, reject or reverse work performed.
• Carry out responsive and preventative maintenance inspections on our residential housing units with focus on health and safety and protection of Canadian Forces Housing Agency assets and housing occupants.
• Provide recommendations and advice to management, occupants, contractors and clients on maintenance projects, capital upgrades and improvements.
• Delivery of allocation services to customers and resolve customer problems.

Education: A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
- A satisfactory score on the Public-Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
- An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

- Experience conducting inspections and determining maintenance requirements of residential housing.
- Experience in the use of software such as Microsoft Excel, Word or Outlook.

- Knowledge of contracting procedures.
- Knowledge of cost estimating and expenditure control techniques.

- Ability to read and interpret codes, standards, specifications, drawing and other technical documents and materials used in residential construction and renovations.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
- Ability to prioritize.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- There is a requirement to limit vacation between the months of May and September.
- Willing and able to meet the occasional requirement to work in confined areas such as crawl spaces or at heights such as second storey roofs.

- Possession of a valid journeyman’s certificate in a residential building trade or certification as an engineering technologist or technician.

Degree equivalency

- A minimum of one year experience conducting inspections and determining maintenance requirements of residential housing.
- Equivalent of 5 years experience as a journeyman in a construction domain.
- Experience in Project Management.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

- Willing and able to travel minimum 1 to 2 days per week from Moose Jaw to Dundurn satellite site.
- A valid, unrestricted drivers’ licence holding a qualification (class 5).
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain the DND 404 military driver’s licence.
- To wear and/or utilize necessary clothing or equipment in compliance with safety regulations.
