The intent of this selection process is to staff one position located in Sidney, BC on an indeterminate basis. A pool of prequalified candidates may also be established to staff similar positions at Fisheries and Oceans Canada with various tenures (indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, secondment, or assignment), various linguistic requirements and profile(s), and for various conditions of employment.

Education:
Successful completion of two years of post-secondary education in a Library technician program, OR an acceptable combination* (see note 1) of education and significant and recent experience* (see note 2).
Note 1: Combination refers a completion of any other post-secondary education and experience of similar work performed in a library environment.
Note 2: Significant and recent is defined as experience normally associated with full time performance of the duties for at least one (1) year within the last three (3) years.
Experience:
E1: Recent* experience providing front-line client services.
E2: Recent* experience using library computer applications such as integrated library systems, online library catalogues or bibliographic databases to locate library materials to provide client services in a library or maintain a library collection.
E3: Recent* experience maintaining a library collection by shelving and shelf reading, or delivering library circulation services, or delivering interlibrary loans services.
*Recent is defined as experience normally acquired within the last three (3) years.
Knowledge:
K1: Knowledge of library circulation and of interlibrary loan practices and procedures.
K2: Knowledge of the Library of Congress classification system, and of filing rules and practices used in and to organize library collections.
Abilities and Skills:
A1: Ability to select the appropriate resources to verify and locate bibliographic information.
A2: Ability to organize and set priorities.
A3: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
A4: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

AE5: Experience using GAC and ABACUS to verify invoices and code expenditures
AE6: Experience working on a document digitization project
Knowledge:

Operational Requirements:
Due to service delivery requirements, agreement to work 8:30 to 4:30 daily and the ability to work 5 days/week will be required.
