Duties

The Managing Director roles are responsible for:
• leading teams of professionals and developing, coaching and managing Director level staff;
• providing guidance, management direction and operational oversight on a portfolio of projects and initiatives related to the mandates of the subject Divisions;
• providing advice to Senior Management and the Assistant Superintendent of Regulation Sector;
• ensuring their teams work collaboratively with colleagues across OSFI and with key external stakeholders.

Intent of the process

OSFI’s Regulation Sector is seeking to fill four (4) Managing Director positions on an indeterminate basis across three Divisions:

- The Managing Director, Strategic Policy Liaison & Prudential Policy leads a team within the Regulatory Affairs Division that is responsible for the development and implementation of guidance for Federally Regulated Financial Institutions (FRFIs) to foster sound risk management and governance practices of and managing OSFI’s relationships and engagement with a range of domestic and international financial sector regulatory and government entities. This is a bilingual position based in Ottawa.

- The two Managing Directors, Bank Capital and Life Insurance Capital lead teams within the Capital Division that are responsible for developing, maintaining and interpreting a variety of Capital, Liquidity and related prudential Guidelines applicable to deposit taking institutions and life insurance companies respectively. Both positions are bilingual positions based in Ottawa.

- The Managing Director, Accounting Policy Division leads the Accounting Policy Division (APD), OSFI's centre of expertise in accounting and auditing standards and public disclosures for FRFIs and international accounting policy and practices. This is an English essential position based in Toronto.

This selection process may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates, which could be used to staff similar or identical positions with various linguistic profiles, security profiles and various tenures and/or other requirements at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions.

EDUCATION:
- Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in economics, commerce, business, finance, accounting, law, public administration, mathematics, actuarial science or any related degree.

* The term “degree” refers to a baccalaureate or a higher level degree, as established by educational authorities.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
- Significant** experience in leading complex financial analysis related to domestic or international financial institutions.
- Extensive*** experience in presenting policy recommendations to senior executives.
- Significant** experience in managing projects and leading a team
- Experience in consulting and collaborating with executive level stakeholders.

** Significant is defined as experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities which could normally be acquired over a period of approximately three (3) or more years in a management position.
*** Extensive is defined as the depth and breadth of work associated with having five or more years’ experience.
