Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff one position located in St. John’s, NL.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various tenures in St. John’s NL, Stephenville NL, Dartmouth NS, Charlottetown PEI, Saint John NB and Yarmouth NS.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Both streams:
• Experience supervising and assigning work to staff
• Experience evaluating work performance and/or providing feedback

KNOWLEDGE:

Both streams:
• Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations to ensure a safe work environment
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety practices and procedures

ABILITIES:

Both streams:
• Ability to prioritize work assignments
• Ability to carry out safety inspections and complete follow up reports
• Ability to use MS Word and MS Outlook
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written

PERSONAL SUITABILITY:

Both streams:
• Effective Interpersonal Skills
• Judgement
• Leadership

• Possession of a valid driver’s licence

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Stream 1 only:
Certification as a Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter

Stream 2 only:
• At least one year experience in the maintenance and/or installation of telecommunications towers.

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Both streams:
High Angle Rescue Training Certificate

Both streams:
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in the supervision of a multidisciplinary workshop
• Experience in the use of Maximo or similar asset tracking software to develop work orders
• Experience developing health and safety safe operating procedures and/or safety plans for planned work activities.
• Experience in financial management such as budgeting recommendations and credit card purchases etc.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Stream 2 only:
Valid Health Canada Medical

Both streams:
• Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations for extended periods of time
• Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations via helicopter, ship, small boat, ATV, UTV, and snowmobile
