Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) is leading Canadian institutions in the field of natural hazards risk assessment. The selected candidate will become part of the GSC Risk Team and will be co-supervised by NRCan scientists. The selected candidate will be involved in research activities related to floodplain mapping, with research activities conducted to extend the flood mapping capabilities of NRCan-GSC tool, Rapid Risk Evaluator (ER2). Presently, the flood extent is simulated by water level, however, your research will extend the capabilities of ER2 to include river discharge and real-time water level forecasts.
Specifically, the research objective is to develop a method to correlate river discharge (Q) to water depth (H) using the height above nearest drainage (HAND) model for river segments in a selected Canadian watershed.
