Education - (Administrative Assistant):
- Successful completion of two years of post-secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Experience - (Administrative Assistant):
- Experience in providing administrative support services.
- Experience processing and distributing correspondence.
- Experience in the area of database management.
Education - (Legal Assistant):
- Successful completion of legal secretarial certificate or diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Experience- (Legal Assistant):
- Experience providing legal or administrative support to legal counsel in criminal or civil litigation.
- Experience working with legal terminology and standardized court documents.
Asset Qualifications:
Education - (Legal Assistant):
- Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in a law related field (already obtained OR obtained before appointment).
Experience - (Administrative Assistant):
- Experience working in a legal environment.
- Experience in providing administrative support to senior management in a professional office environment.
- Experience in using database software applications such as HRG, Integrated Financial Management System and Salary Forecast Tool.
Experience - (Legal Assistant):
- Significant** experience as a legal secretary or a legal administrative assistant.
- Experience in reviewing, formatting and processing a variety of legal and non-legal documents.
- Experience in dealing with more than one level of court litigation such as Provincial Court, Supreme Court, Tax Court, Federal Court, Court of Appeal, or the Supreme Court of Canada.
- Experience corresponding and liaising with a police enforcement agency (i.e. RCMP, Vancouver Police Department, etc).
- Experience corresponding and liaising with a regulatory investigative agency (i.e. Department. of Fisheries, Canada Revenue Agency, Environment and Climate Change Canada, etc.)
- Experience working with an electronic information management system (such as iCase, iRims, etc.).
**Significant experience refers to the depth & breadth of experience normally associated with performance of the duties on a continuous basis over a period of 12 months.
Knowledge - (Administrative Assistant):
- Knowledge of legal terminology.
- Knowledge of legal practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of electronic information management systems (such as iCase, iRims, etc.).
Knowledge - (Legal Assistant):
- Knowledge of legal research methods and practices.
- Knowledge HRG, Treasury Board Secretariat’s policies and procedures on Travel Directive.
Operational Requirements (Administrative Assistant / Legal Assistant):
- Willingness and ability to work overtime when required.
- Willingness and ability to work on weekends.
