**Work Locations : Royal Canadian Mounted Police
1. 1200 Vanier Parkway, Ottawa ON K1A 0R2 and
2. 100 Eglantine Driveway, Ottawa ON
Travel between these two sites will be required

Physical:
Work is performed in an open office environment, resulting in frequent distractions from office conversations, telephones, interruptions from colleagues and a lack of privacy.

Work is performed sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods, troubleshooting client information technology problems in multi-floored laboratory and office environments, moving equipment and installing and testing user hardware and software, which requires occasional heavy lifting.

Work is also conducted in a forensic laboratory environment where there is exposure to a variety of occupational hazards (biological, chemical, physical), some of which are not readily identifiable so awareness of risks must be maintained and appropriate safety procedures adhered to; there is a requirement to wear personal protective equipment as required.

May involve exposure to electrical shock when conducting electronic equipment maintenance and repair, and exposure to injury when lifting and moving electronic equipment.

Psychological:
The work involves time pressures, changing and unpredictable priorities, and multiple conflicting demands with frequent interruptions on a continual basis that can result in stress. The output of services provided directly affects a broad range of operational and management personnel who are themselves working under pressure and to deadlines under circumstances of often changing priorities.

There is lack of control over the pace of work and there is no tolerance for error during a criminal investigation process.

The work involves exposure to disagreeable or unpleasant crime scene environments and unpleasant materials such as graphic descriptions of major case investigations and crime scene photos.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff two positions on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of English Essential and an RCMP secret security clearance.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with an English Essential language profile and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.
