We require a person to interact with diverse research groups, work independently, prepare samples for analysis from collaborators, perform analytical methods (i.e. GC-MS, GC-FID, LC-MS, and NMR), analyse data, and generate summary reports and figures. Analysis will be conducted on diverse biological samples, including plant and fungal cell walls, environmental samples, dietary formulations, carbohydrate active enzyme products. The successful candidate will interact closely with microbiologists, plant biologists, soil chemists, nutritionists, and enzymologists. The position requires maintaining a flexible schedule being able to work independently, and training students and research staff in sample preparation and analysis.
Immediate need: 1 full time temporary position (11 months with possibility of extension).
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment.

Graduation with a PhD degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following fields: chemistry, organic chemistry, carbohydrate chemistry, or a related field in chemistry.

Experience conducting linkage analysis of carbohydrates through the generation of partially methylated alditol acetates.
Experience determining the stereochemistry, sequence, and composition of carbohydrates, including the quantification of neutral and charged, and chemically modified monosaccharides.
Research experience in a high-throughput carbohydrate analytical facility (e.g. plant cell wall, mammalian glycan, or environmental sampling).
Experience with relevant data analysis software and analyzing glycomic data to generate figures for reports and publications.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge of glycomic analysis for the purpose of method development and analyzing diverse agricultural samples (e.g. plant, fungi, macroalgae cell walls; soil; intestinal and fecal microbiomes).
Knowledge of proper maintenance of analytical equipment for analysis of carbohydrate structure, including a Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer and Gas Chromatograph-Flame Ionized Detector.
