This position is responsible for the supervision of an assigned portfolio of property and casualty (P&C) insurers. Risk assessment and intervention responsibilities include planning, directing and overseeing supervisory activities as well as ensuring that work is risk focussed and consistent with OSFI’s supervisory framework.
The Director is also responsible for actively promoting OSFI values and contributing to OSFI management initiatives and priority projects. Other key activities include the identification of emerging risks and trends across the P&C industry; developing recommendations in response and providing operations support to the P&C Insurance Group.
Leading, developing, and coaching staff are key responsibilities of this position.
The intent of this appointment process is to staff one indeterminate position with a language requirement of bilingual imperative CBC/CBC.
This selection process may be used to establish a pool of partially qualified and/or qualified candidates which could be used to staff similar positions at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions.

EDUCATION
- A university degree specializing in accounting, actuarial science, business, commerce, computer science, economics, mathematics or another relevant field OR a combination of education, experience and training.
EXPERIENCE
- Recent* and significant** experience working in the P&C insurance industry and/or regulatory environment and/or risk management industry.
- Experience in identifying gaps in key risk, governance and risk management control practices in P&C institutions including making recommendations for resolution.
- Experience in leading, developing, and coaching staff.
- Experience in making presentations to senior management.
* “Recent” is defined as having been acquired in the last 7 years.
** “Significant” is defined as the breadth and depth of experience, which is normally acquired with having directly performed the full-range of duties over a period of at least 5 years.
ASSET EDUCATION
- Post graduate degree in relevant field.
- A professional designation (CPA, CFA) or other relevant designations.
ASSET EXPERIENCE
- P&C actuarial experience.
- Experience with reinsurance programs.
- Extensive audit experience with an audit firm.
- Experience presenting to senior management.
- Project management experience.
