Perform supervised marine geoscience for seabed geology and mapping. The work includes preparing and conducting marine and coastal field activities; processing, analyzing, and synthesizing seabed geoscience; and production of maps and written reports for internal and public audiences.

A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the PC-02 group and level within Natural Resources Canada, in British Columbia, with various tenures (determinate period or permanent) and with various conditions of employment.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - candidates must meet each essential qualification to be considered for a position:
Education:
►Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, geoscience, chemistry, biology or some other science relevant to the position.
Experience:
►Experience preparing for and participating in marine geoscience research and field activities.
►Experience using Geographic Information System (GIS) software to process and analyse scientific data.
►Experience writing scientific reports.

Knowledge:
►Knowledge of seafloor mapping technology and the processing and interpretation of associated data.
►Knowledge of methods to analyse and interpret marine sediment samples.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - candidates may be required to meet one or more of the following qualifications to be considered for a particular position:
Education:
►Successful completion of a graduate-level degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in marine geoscience or other field related to the duties of the position.
Experience:
►Experience working offshore for a period of at least 2 weeks.
►Experience in the acquisition, processing, visualization and interpretation of seabed bathymetry.
►Experience in the acquisition, processing, visualization and interpretation of seabed geophysical data.
►Experience collecting and interpreting marine geoscience samples from the seabed.
►Experience in the preparation for publication of marine geoscience maps and reports in a digital publishing environment.
Knowledge:
►Knowledge of navigation methods and use with marine data collection.
►Knowledge of academic resources related to marine geoscience.
Abilities & Competencies:
►Ability to plan, prepare and coordinate logistics for field operations.
►Ability to analyse multibeam bathymetry.

►Medical clearance in accordance with Treasury Board Occupational Health Evaluation Standards for field work.
►Willingness and ability to participate in multiple seagoing expeditions of up to one month’s duration, for up to 2 months each year.
►Willingness and ability to work under adverse field conditions on a variety of platforms including research vessels and as part of land-based survey parties.
