Celebrating its 10th year of operation this year, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is the only federal department with an exclusive mandate for the North, and has regional offices in each of the three territories, along with a liaison office in Ottawa.
CanNor's vision is to develop a strong, diversified, sustainable and dynamic economy for all northerners and Indigenous peoples across Canada's three Territories. As the smallest of the Government of Canada’s six regional development agencies (less than 100 staff in total), CanNor provides a unique opportunity for individuals looking to be part of a small but mighty organization that leverages its nimbleness to tackle some serious, high-profile socio-economic issues. As a Regional Director within CanNor’s Operations sector, the selected candidate will have an opportunity to make a real difference in the economic and social wellbeing of northern residents; by working directly with communities and businesses, and witnessing first-hand the results of the government’s investments!
The headquarters of CanNor are located in Iqaluit, Nunavut; Canada’s newest and smallest capital city. With a population of approximately 8,000, Iqaluit is an exciting, dynamic city that is the political, business, media and transportation hub of Nunavut. The city of Iqaluit is rich with traditional Inuit culture, and has many exciting things to offer residents including great recreation programs, a vibrant arts and culture scene and of course, unique landscapes and opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
The intent of this process is to fill 1 full-time position in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.
Consideration may be given to different types of appointments / tenures (e.g. indeterminate, 1 to 3 year term or acting assignment / secondment, Interchange, etc) based on the selected candidate’s personal situation. Candidates are asked to indicate their personal preference for any of these options within their application.
Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (i.e. Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement) who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.
This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in any of CanNor’s northern offices. Qualified candidates may also be referred to other federal organizations that have vacancies to fill in the North.
