How does this process work? Please read below to find out!

******This is anticipated to be a high volume process. Not all candidates will be contacted for further assessment. ******

Step 1:
You apply on line. You may be contacted to provide a copy of all certifications, or confirmation of successful completion of the occupational certifications you hold (essential and asset).

Step 2:
If you are screened in for further assessment, you will be invited to attend an interview to assess your Competencies, including Oral Communication skills. This will also be your opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the work.

Step 3:
If you are successful in the interview, you will be invited to complete the CFFM Firefighter Pre-Entry Fitness Evaluation. Candidates will be responsible for all costs associated with travel and evaluations. All candidates that move through to Fitness Testing and Interview phase will be advised of their outcome in this selection process.

Step 4:
If you are the selected candidate, you will be contacted to complete the Reliability screening and Health Canada Medical Assessment. Once completed, a letter of offer will be provided.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
– Successful completion of secondary school education or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:
– NFPA 1001 (Firefighter) level I&II training certification from a recognized learning institution,
OR
– Completion of a Fire Service Program from a recognized learning institution.

– Possession of NFPA 472 Awareness and Operational level certification from an accredited training provider.
– Appropriately endorsed certification from a recognized service provider in standard/basic first aid and “Level C” Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), or higher.
– SP-100 Forest Firefighter Training certification meeting Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR) standards or provincial or territorial equivalent.*

*Certification must be dated within the past twelve months. If certification is over twelve months, applicant must demonstrate acceptable employment with a recognized institution supressing forest and wild land fires.

– NFPA 1002 Driver/Operator
– NFPA 1003 Airport Fire Fighter

– NFPA 1035 Public Fire & Life Safety Educator
– NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor

Experience:
– Experience working in a fire department as a firefighter on a full time basis or as a volunteer.
– Experience working as a wildland firefighter.

Operational Requirements:
- Willingness to participate in fire fighters physical fitness and maintenance programs.
- Must maintain a reasonable availability to report quickly for overtime in emergency situations

Reliability Status security clearance

Conditions of Employment:
- Must meet and maintain medical standards of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines for a firefighter (Candidates will be required to undergo and pass a pre-placement occupational health evaluation before an appointment can be made)
- Must pass the CFFM’s Firefighter Pre-Entry Fitness Evaluation or an equivalent fitness test approved by the CFFM.
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted class DZ driver’s license issued by the province of Ontario or provincial or territorial equivalent (a current and acceptable Driver’s License Abstract will be required before an appointment can be made).
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain the DND 404 military driver’s licence
- Must be willing to attend and successfully complete applicable trade related training selected and scheduled by the employer
- Must be willing to work shift work.
- Must be willing to wear and/or utilize Personal Protective Equipment in compliance with safety regulations or policies.
