Work environment

Helping Canadians through #LifesBigMoments

Working at Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), which includes Service Canada and the Labour Program, gives you the chance to help strengthen Canada’s economy, society and communities. We are unique because we touch the life of every Canadian at some point. We work with communities, help children, students, workers and people with disabilities, those facing homelessness and poverty, and seniors.

At ESDC, diversity is our strength and we strive to have a workplace that fosters diversity and employment equity by adopting a culture of inclusion, and fostering a workplace that is culturally respectful of Indigenous peoples and supportive of their career development.

In addition, ESDC takes pride in supporting and recognizing the Indigenous Employees’ Circle (IEC), a national forum for Indigenous employees of ESDC to network and to connect with their Indigenous colleagues across the country. Working with internal and external partners, the Circle strives to create a comfortable sense of community for Indigenous employees and provide them with access to elders; to promote awareness of First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures; and to provide a forum for consultation on issues and policies that impact Indigenous peoples.

Intent of the process
