Application Process - Tips & Tricks
***************************
• Manage your time wisely! A Government of Canada job application can take an hour or more to complete thoroughly.
• Found the job online, but don’t have the time to apply right away? Create and sign into the GC Jobs platform and hit “Apply Online” then confirm that you want to continue with the application. This will save the job posting to your “Job Applications” page. Don’t forget to make a note of the closing date so can return to complete the application before the deadline!
• To avoid running into a frustrating “Timed Out” error message while filling out the application form, open a personal Word document to house your responses to the screening questions. Save often! Once you feel you have answered each question to the best of your ability, copy and paste your answers into the application questionnaire on your GC Jobs account and hit SAVE!
• When answering the screening questions, use complete sentences and be mindful of grammar and punctuation! The answers you provide replaces a cover letter and supports your resume. Using statements such as “please refer to resume” will not be accepted as a valid response.
• It is your responsibility to clearly describe HOW you meet each of the screening criteria, outlined above, by thoroughly responding to the screening questions in the online application. Simply stating that you have the required qualifications is not enough. Rather, provide concrete and detailed examples that clearly explain WHERE, WHEN and HOW you gained the experience. Failing to do so could result in your application being rejected.
• Under exceptional circumstances, should you be unable to apply on-line via jobs.gc.ca, it is possible to submit your application, quoting the Selection Process Number, to the application contact listed on the poster on or before the closing date..

ASSESSMENT
***************************
Persons are entitled to participate in the appointment process in the official language of their choice.

The Essential Qualifications and Asset Qualifications may be assessed using various methods of evaluation including, but not limited to, interviews, written exams, PSC tests, reference checking, simulation exercises, and role plays.

Please note that asset qualifications, top-down and/or random selection may be used to identify which applications will be given further consideration.

The essential qualifications that are listed in the statement of merit criteria are mandatory. Pass marks will be established for each qualification. However, achieving the pass mark is not a guarantee of an appointment or that candidates will be put through the next stages of the assessment process. A cut-off score or a top-down approach may be used at any step if there is a sufficient number of candidates to meet immediate and anticipated staffing needs.

Applicants may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In the event that there are as many applicants who meet the essential qualifications as there are vacancies, the manager may decide not to assess some or all of the asset qualifications.

All information obtained through the selection process, from the time of application to close of process, could be used to evaluate the candidates.
