Assessment accommodation

Duties

Interpretation and communication of Aboriginal offender behaviour, treatment needs and progress to the case management team for inclusion in correctional/healing plans to promote the safe release of Aboriginal offenders and to reduce the recidivism rate.

Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Intent of the process

A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff the same or similar vacant positions now or in the future. This pool will have a validity period and may be extended pending proper approval from management.

A covering letter in 2,000 words (maximum) "Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet the essential EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION criteria listed. Candidates should use the experience and education criteria as a HEADER and then write concrete examples demonstrating how they meet the experience and education required. Resumes will be used to validate the EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION listed in the cover letter. Failure to provide sufficient information may result in the candidate being screened out."

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Degree from a recognized post secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience is determined to be 2 years of post secondary education in a field of study related to the work to be performed and/or 2 years of work experience and training in a relevant field.

Degree equivalency

Experience in the traditional, cultural and spiritual practices of Aboriginal teachings and values.
Experience working with Aboriginal Elders.
Experience in using a computer including word processing software such as Microsoft Word.
*Significant experience working with or for Aboriginal communities and organizations.
*Significant experience is defined as a minimum of two years.

Knowledge of Aboriginal traditions, culture and spirituality, particularly as it relates to Elders.
Knowledge of cultural diversity of Aboriginal people.
Knowledge of the history and current circumstances of Aboriginal people in Canada.

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate Aboriginal cultural events such as traditional and/or spiritual ceremonies, social activities and programs.
Ability to work with and support Elders, respecting traditional protocols and values, particularly as they relate to Elders.
Ability to manage, support, and motivate people individually and/or within group settings.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
