Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) has an interesting and unique mandate by playing a role in supporting services and programs in communities such as health, education, economic development, housing, community infrastructure and social support. In the context of reconciliation, ISC supports Aboriginal peoples (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) in their efforts to improve social well-being and economic prosperity to the benefit of all Canadians.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate position in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This process is anticipatory for the other locations. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a term and/or indeterminate or acting basis.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of an approved program in Dental Therapy from a recognized Canadian institution.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Significant* experience working as a Dental Therapist.

Experience working effectively with First Nations, Inuit, or Métis.

*Significant experience is defined as approximately three (3) years of fulltime
employment in the applicable field of work.

Knowledge of the social determinants of health.
Knowledge of dental treatment and preventive dentistry as it relates to the practice of dental therapy in the First Nation community.
Knowledge of program support activities related to the delivery of an oral health program.
Knowledge of current infection prevention and control practices

Ability to organize, implement and deliver a community-based oral health program.
Ability to develop and deliver an oral health education and promotion program.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to maintain dental records/ documents.
